  you got Doja Cat and the Twitch community rallying around this 18 year old streamer of the name of Nitro Camden, after his mom made this unhinged decision to attack and threaten him on camera.

  Oh! My room. My house. Everything. This is all mine. Get out! It should have dated hours ago.

  Been at home all fucking day.

  Still playing video games like a fucking 40 year old virgin in his mom's basement. it's with a lot of people coming into this situation blind.

  Here's the context.

  just a few days ago, Camden was this regular teenager from Saint Louis who was streaming to maybe a couple of people from his bedroom, right. Far from being some twitch celebrity.

  but then, like every small creator dreams of who gets this lucky moment when all of a sudden a massive streamer by the name of stable Renaldo rated his channel with 15,000 viewers.

  and rating. If you're not familiar, it's a very streaming specific thing.

  It's when a streamer sends their current viewers to another creator's channel, when their own broadcast ends. and so Camden gets so excited about all these new viewers. And he starts celebrating on the stream.

  but that's also when his mom gets into the room and plugs his equipment and starts verbally and physically abusing him, saying that he was too with her, then going on about how he adds no value to the household, even though you know, she is the parent and he is the kid.

  and you then ever attacking her son, staying up past his bedtime while also yelling about how he's a legal adult and comparing him to a 40 year old virgin.

  again, this is an 18 year old trying to do something, an online entertainment.

  but then actually from there, it looks like Camden's mom actually did call the cops on him. And kicked him out of the house. they're telling me, she's trying to file a restraining order on me.

  So I said, yeah, that's what she said. And bro talking about? I'm the one that did this is my fault in some other shit. I'm gonna just go bro.

  I'm about to get a bottle.

  so then with all they see a lot of people expressing concern about the situation, sending him support.

  And actually, after the initial clip started circulating online, Steve Will Renaldo. Right, the streamer who rated Camden, he weighed in.

  reposting the footage and tweeting what the fuck is wrong with people trying to help out a small streamer and his mom does this. into this whole situation starts spreading.

  I mean, it reaches people like Doja Cat, who then had words of encouragement for Camden, tweeting. Shout out to Nitro Camden! You deserve those supporters and more. Angel.

  don't ever give up on what you're doing. Make this shit your life. with Camden, then seeing that, saying thank you so much. You don't understand how much I appreciate this. with this, then reaching other major streamers in the space like sinner.

  messaged me privately and I want to figure out some stuff with your money situation so I can make sure I could try to send you

  the money on Cash App or something so you can get a hotel or whatever, but then also with this, you had people sharing their opinions about this, adding to the discourse.

  right on the original people commenting things like, she said he's like a 40 year old virgin living in his mom's basement. He's a teenage kid. What a stupid comparison.

  another adding, nah, the mother about to learn the hard way about how social media can change lives.

  some people are even saying the mom should be Right after the clip of his mom just doing all that went viral.

  People were wondering in a where is came to now, and well, it appears he's now relocated to a friend's house, at least temporarily.

  You're seeing new clips of him smiling dance and enjoying his newfound social media fame. Shall we? I turn over all we had to my Saturday. Well.

  and so hopefully, you know, this is a story about some good coming out of what seems to be a very toxic, unhealthy mess we're because Camden, at least as I'm recording,

  he now has over 270,000 followers on Twitch, with that number likely to grow as the story gets more attention.

  and well. Who knows what Camden does with this opportunity, how things proceed forward. one.

  I think it's an unfortunate reminder that sometimes the people that are supposed to love us, the most are our biggest haters. two. Everything starts from zero. So you got to believe in yourself before anyone else does.

  until you get to that level of success where everyone says that they supported you from the beginning. and three. This is really a message for everyone, not just creators.

  especially if you have a not so great home situation, you have found family out there. You have community out there that you just haven't met yet. then actually, I'll say the controversy is known in there regarding Twitch.

• Twitch & Amazon Sued for Using Livestreams to Train AI

  because you also have this news about a massive lawsuit from streamers in response to Twitch's shady and underhanded AI training scheme. right. Because this actually stems from a few weeks ago.

  because Twitch very quietly changed their terms of service to include information about a feature that allows content on the platform to be used for training Amazon's generative AI.

  And of course, Amazon is Twitch's parent company, there was no formal announcement for this feature and more importantly, no express choice to participate.

  It was automatically turned on, then you saw as streamers and viewers caught wind of all this.

  Twitch did post an announcement that there was a way to opt out buried in the bowels of your account settings.

  also one of the things is, even if you do opt out, anything you say in the chat of a streamer who hasn't can be used to train AI and any of your clips featured in someone else's stream.

  It can also be used as well. know, just a fun little loophole.

  so, as you might imagine, a lot of people were pissed off going, have you ever heard about a thing called fucking consent?

  just days before this thing made headlines, was a poll with more than 15,000 votes on Twitch's official page asking for user input, saying that all AI features should be optional, suggesting, hey, Twitch should give creators a choice to turn that on.

  And then, yeah, they let their content be used for AI purposes, but by default it should be turned off. but here's a key thing. he was asked why that wasn't how this particular feature was handled.

  Chief Product Officer Mike mitten seemed to to say the quiet part out loud, Now why is it not opt in? That's what everybody I hear spamming in chat I get it.

  Let me let me opt in versus making me opt out.

  Well, there's an honest answer and I think most of you probably can appreciate this. Like if it was opt in, nobody would opt in. That's honestly the answer.

  that public comment, that clip, it turned the whole thing up to 11. people across the board started pushing back.

  unless you opt out, you will be fed to the AI overlords. They will train off of you. They will wear your flesh.

  Clearly, they don't respect your choices. You in other saying so they know no one wants it.

  But instead of not pushing the thing, they'd rather force it on all of us and hope that some people forget to opt out just to feed on our data. Regardless. Disgusting.

  with all of that, then bring us to the big news, which is creators have filed a lawsuit Specifically streamer Warren. Fantasy from Connecticut.

  He sued both Twitch and Amazon, saying that they unlawfully copied millions of videos that developed Amazon's AI violating creators implied contracts with Twitch.

  because you have this situation where when a user signs up, they enter into a partnership with Twitch, where copy and content for undisclosed commercial use is prohibited. and the suit claims that this is exactly what Amazon and Twitch are doing here.

  They're stealing content to train AI because AI models and products can make them money. actually, not only that, the suit claims that they have been doing this for years.

  are you have it pointing to 2024 comments from Mike min, who was at the time the chief monetization officer, seemingly saying that Twitch content was already being used to develop Amazon's AI quote in a prototype, not in any kind of production scale capacity.

  then remember the change of the terms of service. And the opt out toggle didn't exist until a couple of weeks ago.

  and you've got fantasy accusing both of the companies of completely betraying the creators that make their platform work to line their own pockets.

  the lawsuit specifically reading defendants actions were not only unlawful, but an unconscionable attack on the community of content creators whose content is used to fuel the multi-trillion-dollar generative AI industry without any compensation.

  but then I think it's also very important to know that this is far from the first time that we are seeing shady content harvesting for AI, rebel TikTok. Meta. For example, they tried something similar to this recently.

  And earlier this year, three YouTubers filed a class action lawsuit against Apple with accusations that it scraped copyrighted content to train their AI. then as far as Twitch. Well, yes, there's this lawsuit.

  It really seems like this is a moment where people are rallying together.

  or you've got a tag saying that the creators opted out of the AI training feature, popping up on accounts and streams, as well as tutorials going up about how to opt out on your own account.

  then there's also some folks out there saying, hey, there is a silver lining to the situation, saying, hey, look at the reaction. There's a sign of hope here. Saying things like, this is proof that AI is not inevitable.

  If it was, they wouldn't have to spend billions of dollars forcing it down your throat, saying they wouldn't have to force everything to be opt in by default.

  wouldn't have to build data centers in poor neighborhoods where people can't fight back, deny them.

• Republican Candidates Turn on AI Data Centers While Trump Still Pledges Support

  Because while the backlash against data center has been going on for a while, and you've seen both parties trying to figure out how to navigate this ahead of the midterms.

  Trump heat has issued a pretty strong rebuke against lawmakers who were joining the opposition.

  because in his interview with Michael Cohen that aired in full yesterday, which even that is like a that's a video in its own right. He said.

  communities, frankly, communities that don't take a data set of they make it a risk because there's plenty of communities that want them, because it means jobs

  and it means tremendous tax revenue coming into the towns and cities that take them. So, you know, it's like, the smart ones are saying, I want them so badly.

  but here's the thing.

  You're seeing key voices in his own party moving in the opposite direction right now.

  that's very likely because the American public is increasingly turning against data centers with, I mean, Gallup recently finding that 7 in 10 Americans oppose local construction of these facilities.

  and when you're seeing Democrats and independents more likely to oppose the construction, at least as far as the voting base, the majority of Republicans are against it as well.

  so with the midterms really just around ten weeks away, you have conservatives thinking they need to get in line with some voters.

  so in recent days and weeks you've seen some Republicans, specifically ones running for election reelection, who previously supported data centers doing a complete 180 and actually one of the biggest is Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

  I mean, just last year, he and Google announced a $40 billion infrastructure investment into the state, with Abbott calling Texas the epicenter of AI development. that has been deeply unpopular.

  And you places like The Washington Post, even speaking to Republicans who plan to vote for his Democratic opponents, all because of data centers.

  with one saying nothing has been done by our party to help adding any Republican who has been in office since we started this fight, I'm not going to vote for them.

  I mean, right now you have a poll from Fox News putting Democratic candidate Gina, you know, hosa within a point of Abbott, who is an incumbent in a red state.

  and she very notably has been running on data centers recently airing an ad saying. Why is my electric bill going up? Absolutely. I'm happy to help.

  Data center production and energy use in Texas is skyrocketing to meet EHS needs for your future. What? Who authorized that?

  Greg Abbott.

  so Abbott now appears panicked, and he's pausing construction on these projects until regulators can conduct audits on them, delaying them for at least months. Right.

  Which interestingly, it sounds like, you know, past the midterms. and you also them claiming that they'll add new guardrails for their operation.

  Number one, they must identify what water usage they're demanding and make clear they are not taking water from communities that need it.

  Number two, they must not take power from the Texas power grid that's needed. Number three, they must actually lower the cost of electricity for consumers.

  the data centers, they didn't do their job to get the support of people in local communities. they had not been working in collaboration with the state.

  They had not been working in collaboration with local governments.

  And so they basically dug their own grave for the problem that's been caused for them. And that's why they got the backlash they deserve. right.

  And it's not alone in this big about face.

  just last week, you're the National Republican Senatorial Committee issuing a memo warning that data centers were hurting the party in the Ohio Senate race.

  in that race, you have Senator John Houston fighting to keep his seat against Democrat Sherrod Brown.

  again, we've seen Brown airing ads calling out his Republican opponent for data center support. Why are there 226 data centers in Ohio?

  Fifth most of any state. John Huston.

  That's why He force fed the massive energy sucking facilities on the state, giving corporations over $2.5 billion and out of control tax breaks and causing electric bills to spike by thousands of dollars.

  and according to this memo, Brown is using this strategy because it works more than any other thing in this race.

  Data centers are the anchor hanging around Houston's neck saying if he loses and data centers get the blame, politicians across the country will take notice and they will not go near the next one.

  and so now to correct course, at least to the public.

  Ustedes introducing a bill to quote, protect Americans from footing the bill for new data centers. and that's happening is over in Michigan.

  You have Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers coming out in support of a one year moratorium on data center construction.

  you know, Politico saying there that possibly puts Rogers on par with his progressive Democratic opponent, Abdul say. Yet? you know, them claiming that data centers are at an oh, shit moment. right.

  And I'll say it is worth noting that it's not just Republicans that are changing their tune the Pennsylvania governor's race, you've seen the Republican candidate airing ads calling out incumbent Democrat Josh Shapiro for supporting data centers.

  Shapiro pocketed over $5 million in political contributions from out of state data center developers.

  Shapiro sold us out. is a now Shapiro who notably might have eyes on a white House run. He just announced new restrictions on development.

  it's impact on Republicans specifically is very interesting for a few reasons.

  refers to saying things like, according to an analysis from the Washington Post, the right's been a little slower to join the hate train compared to the Democrats, who largely started switching to negative messaging about data centers months earlier. and two.

  Trump himself is very likely not moving away from his pro data center position. and in fact, he's already called out Texas and Greg Abbott calling it a mistake. and he has repeatedly said things like.

  if I ran a community of I was a mayor or if I was a governor in the state, I would want to have the data centers because they bring tremendous income.

  you have to convince your community how great these things. You can't fight it.

  You have to go with and so it seems like he is undermining his own party's candidates who are trying to change tune to survive. especially since the midterms, they're going to be here tomorrow, right?

  They're closer and closer. Oh, wow.

  Just this morning, you, the New York Times, running a piece saying Democrats have opened up more than one path to winning control of the Senate. I mean, just a year ago felt impossible.

  and right now, three key races are lean and blue, and even more, they're tossups.

  then, importantly, this situation, it's going to stay on the ballot even after November with, for example, an unnamed rep from a major AI company telling Politico, I is going to be a massive issue

  for the presidential election in a way that technology has never been an issue, saying nobody wants to lose their job and they're already feeling squeezed.

  Well, these very, very rich people who are richer than anything we have ever seen in the history of Earth, are making more. think people are sick and tired of that.

  with all this I will say, and this is very anecdotal, from my experience with everyone that I've been talking to and what I've been seeing, the best things for Democrats right now is to hit hard on data centers.

  And these flock cameras.

  not only are a lot of Republican politicians late to the game on this and kind of doing something last minute so it feels inauthentic and fake.

  seen more independents and non indoctrinated Republicans going, I don't know what the fuck are elected politicians are doing, and they're talking about their Republican politicians.

  and so my recommendation would be hit these topics hard. Also if you do get elected actually fucking follow through on it. I mean that both for the national and especially the local races.

• PM Mark Carney Says Canada Is “At War” With U.S. Over Recent Tariffs

  then also as you're seeing all these wars playing out regarding data centers and flock cameras, we then have to talk about how apparently Canada is now at war with the United States.

  because that's literally what Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said over the weekend after trade negotiations between the two nations collapsed.

  you've had to go for years, working for weeks after Trump announced new 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods last month.

  without including alcohol, dairy products, furniture, athletic equipment, toys, clothes and more. now, very notably here.

  Those duties were announced just a day after Trump threatened to impose new tariffs over smoke that had drifted to the U.S. from the Ontario fires.

  But of course, the white House claim that the new duties had nothing to do with the wildfires, instead accusing Canada of retaliating against the U.S. over Trump's 2025 tariffs.

  at the time, Trump gave negotiators a 30 day grace period to try and hash out a deal.

  But because they failed to reach a deal before the deadline, the tariffs officially took effect on Saturday.

  and then not long after that, you had Carney delivering a speech where he just absolutely tore into the U.S. government. Because we were attacked, like you're at war when you get attacked.

  We got attacked. We've been under no illusions.

  We recognized from the start that America has changed Our government understood before many

  that America would transform all of its commercial relationships, that it would put a series of tariffs on its closest allies and use economic integration as a weapon.

  We recognized that sometimes its signature was written in pencil. you also regarding going on to blame the U.S.

  for the breakdown in negotiations, claiming that they derail the talks with last minute proposals that would be harmful to Canada.

  in recent days the United States proposed new terms that were uneconomic, unfair and undermined the net benefits for Canada and called into question the reliability of any deal.

  right into his last point there.

  One thing that is super important to understand is that economists say that the new tariffs are actually pretty minor in terms of economic impact.

  you're looking at about 5% of the $382 billion in Canadian goods that the US imported last year.

  but the reason the tariffs are so significant is that they could undermine U.S.

  Canada relations, inviting retaliation and potentially even sparking an all out trade war. in fact, we're already seeing that happen.

  I mean, in his speech on Saturday Carnival that he would respond by imposing retaliatory tariffs on American goods. Now Canada

  will match Washington's new tariffs, dollar for dollar in order to protect Canadian workers, farmers, families and businesses.

  Our response will be concentrated in sectors such as steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper.

  Electronics you then also had Ontario Premier Doug Ford who leads Canada's most populous province. Taking that even further, with them telling reporters everything's on the table.

  If the trade dispute worsens, including cutting off electricity flows to the U.S. and restricting the export of critical minerals.

  now, that said, as recording, Canada has not released any specific details about their intended tariffs and what specific goods that they're going to target.

  But already you've got Trump escalating the standoff just this morning, Trump made a classic rambling post on Truth Social where he accused Canada of, quote, ripping off the United States of America

  for years through tariffs on farmers and farm products, with them then going on to announce that starting January 1st, he'll be imposing a 50% tariff on all cars, trucks, as well as automotive parts and steel and adding build in the US and there are zero tariffs.

  Canada will be treated like a state no longer.

  and so it appears you have Trump already escalating a trade war with Canada before Canada has even officially said what tariffs it will impose on the US.

  then there's also feels extra crazy because literally just moments before Trump made that announcement, US Trade Representative Jamison Greer was trying to downplay the impact of the tariffs that went into effect on Saturday, telling reporters.

  I think the markets understand that this affects a very small amount of trade. And adding that he wouldn't use the term trade war to define Saturday's tariffs.

  So again it ends up seeming like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

  Trump is just on a whim deciding to do something on his own, or at least without consulting key people in his administration. definitely none of this is surprising in a certain way.

  I mean, from the get go, Trump's tariffs have kind of felt totally haphazard and willy nilly, even the fact that he is setting a January 1st deadline for the new auto

  and steel tariffs, it feels like another place where he's just going to check it out and claim some sort of victory.

  many skeptical speculating that there's such a big grace period because he wants to restart negotiations.

  then at the same time, like it also doesn't seem like Trump even knows what he's doing. I mean, for one thing, the U.S.

  literally already has a 50% tariff on steel imported from Canada, so it's unclear if Trump meant that the tariff would rise to 100%.

  but then even if Trump chickens out on those particular tariffs, experts say that he's igniting a trade war that could inflict serious harm on the U.S.

  economy, creating major economic shocks and passing the cost hikes on to American businesses and consumers who are already facing high prices because of Trump's pointless war in Iran.

  a war that, by the way, despite Trump saying that we've, I don't know, won like 17,000 times, but then somehow it's continued.

  that makes sense to a chunk of his base has now dragged on for nearly six months, despite Trump's promises that would be over in like a matter of weeks. actually very notably here.

  We've even seen some Republicans hitting back at the new tariffs, arguing that Trump he's just hurting Americans already grappling with an affordability crisis.

  for example, Susan Collins, who's running for reelection in one of the most high stakes races this year, arguing that the policy is going to be especially harmful to the state of Maine, which is a lot of commerce across the border.

  I still think imposing new tariffs on Canada is a mistake.

  We produce a lot of Maine our blueberries, our potatoes, our lobster, our lumber that is processed across the border.

  If it comes back with a huge tariff on it, perhaps as much as 50%,

  that increases the cost of eating, building homes and merchants and our best stone products.

  you got a lot of stragglers wondering why the hell not only what do you do this, but he would do this so close to the midterms, especially at a time when his approval ratings hitting record lows and his polling on the economy just continues to tank.

  I mean, across the board, we're seeing crazy stuff.

  got ranchers who've had Trump's back for God knows how long, saying that what he's doing right now regarding like beef tariffs, that there's a betrayal.

  at a rally over the weekend, he ended up having to kick out a guy and, kill your local pedophile shirt. all the hardcore MAGA. They're yelling at him, flipping him off.

  and well, hey, no poll matters. If it's not, then followed up by actual votes.

  does appear to be fully intent and putting Republicans in a very hard spot right now. but then from that, finally today.

• California AG Cancels Meeting With Paramount

  Let's end with a quickie, but actually an important in this, because we have some big Paramount drama updates.

  because you had Paramount said to have a meeting with California AG Rob Bonta today, which could have gotten them closer to settling their legal because their California officials leading the legal charge against their Warner Bros.

  that whole process has been a mess in and outside of for example, people like Mark Ruffalo speaking out against the merger, calling Larry Ellison a classic oligarch, connecting it all to issues with Ellison's company Oracle in the genocide in Gaza.

  Right. With all this.

  Paramount's already threatened to leave California if they can't come to an as it was believed that there was a chance to make some good headway in this but then after some information about the talks they had last Friday leaked,

  Bonta canceled on them, claiming that they were moving in bad Saying not only did they leak the alleged substance of settlement discussions, but they misrepresented Paramount has denied

  being the source of any of the league's, even saying that they were still ready to move forward with the discussions.

  And that also might be because there is a lot at and in fact, the stakes are rising because on one hand, Paramount could be paying the cost for all these delays.

  Or because they actually have to start paying hundreds of millions of dollars in fees to Warner Brothers shareholders if they don't seal the deal by October.

  but on the other hand, if they actually start to look to move and they move, you're talking about 4500 California jobs and like $1.26 billion in wages gone just like

  and while you have people like California Governor Gavin Newsom saying that he's concerned about all this and just wants to see Hollywood thrive.

  You have Monta as soon as Paramount stops playing games and engages sincerely, my office is happy to meet for now, we'll have to wait to see what happens here. And honestly, with a lot of what we talked about But then my friend.
